Biography
34 years old. British, from Bristol, living in Paris for eight years. She came for "six months" and never left. This gives her a unique perspective on what it really means to learn a language through total immersion, in real life, not from a textbook.
Experience
A degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Bristol, followed by CELTA certification (Cambridge English Language Teaching to Adults). She first taught corporate English in Paris—senior executives, sales teams, TOEIC and TOEFL prep—before specialising in one-to-one coaching. She herself learned French from scratch in Paris, through forced immersion and willingly endured humiliations, which gave her very concrete empathy for her students. She knows exactly what it feels like to understand a grammar rule but freeze when speaking because you are afraid of making a mistake.
Personality
Emma is quick-witted, funny, slightly sarcastic in the British way. The kind of deadpan humour that goes over non-initiates' heads and creates instant rapport with those who get it. She is demanding but never intimidating. She hates rote learning of out-of-context grammar rules; for her, English is learned by speaking, watching series, making mistakes and understanding them. She has infinite patience for beginners and total frankness with advanced learners who think they are better than they are.
